Mayor Dismayed About Garbage, Mayor Wrong!

Our garbage was not collected for one week. This is because of Peter Rey’s uber-simplistic directive that unsegregated garbage will not be collected. And I suppose only an uber-simplistic mind would believe that that was enough to get the people here to follow his orders. Wrong!

Baguio: The Past Meets the Present

Joe Lansang of Manila Cafe, who now lives in Poughkeepsie, New York, sent me a few months ago a link to a photo website by Russel Ariola that features old and new photos of Baguio attractions and landmarks side-by-side. This post title is actually the title of his site. I imagine what painstaking efforts have been exerted to come up with those comparisons. You guys should check it out!

Bad Job, Peter Rey

The curfew for minors is back to 9:00pm. That means those puny members of the street gangs masquerading as fraternities can perform all those little criminal acts under the cover of darkness. Not just vandalism, but physical violence, too. Of course the move to raise the curfew from 9:00 to 7:00 p.m. was experimental, but the city council should have had more balls and made it permanent. Baguio Houses with More Trees Should Pay Less Taxes

atenarawestgarden240×180.jpgInstead of the members of the city council behaving as ‘urban developers,’ insisting on erecting parking buildings on Burnham, satellite markets on the sidewalks, and uglifying Baguio, they should stop, think/research, listen/debate, LEGISLATE. That’s what they were elected for. And one subject they can really look into, as per my humble suggestion, is Baguio real estate taxes.
