University of Baguio (UB) Fire

Written by lisa on Feb 17th, 2008 | Filed under: business & economy

February 16, 2008 started as a perfect Saturday — clear skies, the classic northern chill in the air.

Then suddenly the lights went off at about 11:30, almost simultaneously with the all-too-familiar wild wailing of fire trucks. Suddenly, all of us at home receive text messages: UB (University of Baguio) is burning! UB is on fire!

GMA Cancels Trip to Baguio

Written by lisa on Feb 15th, 2008 | Filed under: government & politics

Uh-oh! Now it’s an uncovered plot to assassinate GMA on the occasion of the PMA Alumni Homecoming in Baguio — by Muslims, too. How convenient! Can you believe this? She will cancel a trip that will put her in the midst of all her generals, the ‘best protectors’ of our country, and in high security FORT Del Pilar, no less!

Panagbenga 2008 - Market Encounter & Landscape Exhibit

Written by lisa on Feb 14th, 2008 | Filed under: panagbenga

The Market Encounter is one of the pillars of the Panagbenga. As is the Landscape Exhibit. These two are the first salvo and last the length of the festival, and are located at Burnham Park. The highlight of course would be the Parade weekend that attracts tens of thousands of visitors, while the highlight for Baguio residents would be the week-long Session Road in Bloom.

Baguio Taxi Driver Returns Bag to Owner

Written by lisa on Feb 9th, 2008 | Filed under: the good life

Sounds like a news headline, doesn’t it?

Nah, it’s just a short story for you.

Well, I had guests who rode a cab to go to town after checking in yesterday, left a bag inside the cab, then called me to ask if I was able to get the name of the Baguio cab they rode in.

I said I did not but that I would PRAY instead.

Five hours later, as I returned from dinner with yet another set of guests, I asked the first group if the contents of the lost bag were irreplaceable, and much to my surprise and pleasure they said, “He returned it! He brought it back here!”

They still did not get the name of the cabbie or the cab company, but I figured, if one dishonest act condemns all Baguio cabbies, one honest act can serve to redeem all of them as well.

Just thought to give you a ‘Feel Good’ story to start the day off right!
