Addendum:
The recent rains have screwed up my broadband connection and when I checked this post last, many lines had been deleted, including partial vice-mayors list and all councilors and worse yet, all my notes on those running. Sorry about that. I have published their political parties this time though, so you know who’s in bed with whom!
For new visitors to this post, let me tell you that the comments are more interesting than ever!

Greetings in peace… I noticed that Mr. Leandro Yangot is listed as lawyer in the candidates list. I checked the list of Bar passers for the 2004, 2005 & 2006 and I do not see his name. In fairness to him though the firearm that was found in his car when his car was searched in a malate street is licensed. He just did not happen to bring it that time. Which is…. hehehe, call it as you see it…
O ya, Lardizabal was a lawyer and he ran Baguio just fine, if not great. Bawal py agtupra kalsada idi tyempo na…
Hi Lang, thanks for dropping by!
You’re right. He’s not a lawyer. It’s his wife who is. And if he were, he wouldn’t be on your list because that would make him about only 28 years old — hahaha! Thanks for clarifying firearm issue (the talk around Baguio was not about a Malate incident, though) Mayor Lardizabal was mayor 30-40 years ago — during martial law and when the Department of Tourism was very active in Baguio! Those were the days when Baguio’s population was small, and everyone had a garden, and Baguio looked like America — and yes, he did not allow anyone to spit!
But in recent years, everyone could do whatever he pleases in, to and with Baguio — peddle on overpasses and sidewalks, pee in public (even with “clean restrooms” available), park on narrow roads outside their homes (and if everyone on the block does it, Baguio will declare that a “one way” street), violate property lines, squat everywhere, serve carinderia food without proper preparation, oh and the kids can drink alcohol and smoke and kill each other, not segregate their garbage and dump it anywhere, steal whole blocks of electrical wire, build “firewalls” with windows, provide bedspaces with a 20:1 bathroom ratio, build rickety houses. All in the name of making a living and trying to survive. And all our politicians cater to all these people, are afraid to offend or discipline them, relying heavily on their vote every 3 years.
So let’s all ruin Baguio, shall we? What these folks don’t realize is that if we make Baguio pretty more people and bigger spenders will come and make us all earn well and more jobs will be created. That’s how it was during Lardizabal’s time. Baguio was No. 1. Now we’re struggling to stay in the Top 10 Philippine destinations. With all the schools and stores here, how come Baguio folks feel poor? It’s because the economic focus is all wrong.
But hey, this site welcomes all views and even dissent, so we can get folks debating (instead of just agreeing). Thank you so much.
Now it’s only Leandro who has a blank slot next to his name, hehehe. Readers use your imagination and post something on that blank box kadi, hehehe. One could be… Yangot…. Lawyer(’s husband).
Ya Baguio is a mess right now. And looking at the current political climate now I don’t think Baguio will be up for any improvements in the near future. Am surprised Baguio is still in the top ten list. But hey, it still is #1 for me. I’ve been to several major cities in the Philippines and abroad and I still prefer Baguio…. Nga pagyanan a han a pagtrabahuwan…
Oh ya, Leandro is a barangay captain met gayam. Jy bakakeng.
Ma’m u sed in your post dat ortega was once elected mayor. As far as I can recall he did run for Mayor in Baguio but was never elected. Unless you meant his siblings in la union? Bobby Ortega is a nice guy, really. I may not approve of his ways but at least he gets something done.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t Ortega win and get disqualified in 1992, which is when Domogan became mayor? Also, I scoured the web for Yangot’s occupation and all I found was “government official.” Now that’s not an occupation, is it? Unless it’s his source of livelihood. Hahaha. Sembrano’s occupation is also blank.
Ok, I remember it now. Landmark decision. Labo won, his citizenship disqualified him from holding office. Ortega got second highest votes so should he should have sat as mayor. But the official ruling by the Supreme Court was that Labo got 66% of the votes, while Ortega only 32% so Labo’s vice mayor, Domogan, was to succeed in his place.
Please read
1. RAMON L. LABO, JR. vs. COMMISSION ON ELECTIONS ET AL.
2. MA-LABO PO ANG DOKTRINA by Ducky Paredes
It was Jun Labo who was elected and got disqualified. That’s why I hope Labo will win again. And Atty. Faustino Olowan will win as Vice-Mayor… Hehehe…
Hahaha, unfortunately some pipol if not most mistake a calling to serve for source of livelihood.
Atty. Faustino Olowan is also running for Vice-Mayor. Danny Farinas is also a lawyer. Atitiway da amin ya. I think the atitiways outnumber even the nurses in Baguio, hehehe. So vote for the nurse for a change…
Could u please include the full lists of candidates running for city councilors?
Salamat po.
Oooopss… Page not found naman ung 2. Ma-Labo po and doktrina. Kawawa nga naman si Mayor Labo. I once went to one of his houses in Baguio (I heard he sold it) and with him were some of his followers notably Amay Bisaya. Mayor Labo offered my party a bottle of Johnny Walker Black to drink while he and his followers were drinking a bottle of bilog (Ginebra San Miguel Gin). Now you can’t get any more pinoy than that.
there’s a nurse?
Yes ma’m. His name is BRUCE BECASEN. He’s running for COUNCILOR. Let’s give him a chance to add flavor to the pot of current politicians.
Please include Atty. NICK ALIPING in your list of Councilors to vote for. Am not indorsing him ‘coz he’s a friend but because I know that he will work for Baguio and it’s residents. I’ve dealt with him from simple legal matters to concerts/martial arts tournaments for a cause to ironing out inter-tribal matters and he never fails to deliver although we haven’t been always on the same side. He is approachable, fair and just. Thank you.
Huh! Nahilo ako dun a. Malabo talaga. All I can say is still poor, poor Labo. I hope he gets sweet revenge this time, hehehe.
atty. richard carino was listed as publisher/editor, anyone knows which paper is he a publisher/editor for? any news about atty. carino will be greatly appreciated. im his huge fan (saw him playing organ in bcc).
