What’s hot and what’s not in cool, cool Baguio City Philippines

Baguio Local Elections (Part 5): Election Day

Oh, did you think I was going to make my endorsements for my favorite candidates here as a last hurrah? Nope, nope, nope! I am merely going to say that today, there will be one winner for mayor and nine others who were cheated.

No one “loses” in the Philippines, you see. It was because “the winner cheated,” of course! And as far as the 50 men and women running for the city council, there are only 13 are ranked: the top 12 plus 38 other people coming in 13th (Much like when the bar results are out and everyone comes in 21st)!

To be fair, in 2004 Braulio Yaranon won by such a wide margin, then incumbent mayor Bernardo Vergara conceded defeat quite readily.

It is still undetermined whom block-voting Iglesia ni Kristo is going choose. That’s a pretty large swing vote for this small town.

An informal survey of the many Muslims in Baguio shows that they favor Ramon Labo — but they are not a very large group. They’re just pretty conspicuous because they are selling the same products all together on Session Road (dvds) and Burnham Park (sunglasses).

As for the youth, this group is split into Peter Ray Bautista, Leandro Yangot and Braulio Yaranon camps. But did they register as voters?

Who will the natives vote for? Well, just know that they go home to their Cordillera provinces to vote, as near as La Trinidad and as far as Abra. Those who vote in Baguio will be voting and manning the polls in their native dress, which is just about the cutest thing!
