An Inspiring, Beautiful Baguio Morning

Although I woke up this morning to the sound of those ubiquitous motor vehicles bringing students to the two schools I have as neighbors along my street, the sound of little children laughing and talking while walking, plus the misty early morning has put me in bright spirits, thinking it a good day to do some housekeeping.
But before you guys get the idea that I am some hausfrau, barefoot, and pregnant with cleaning tasks, know that this groovy, opinionated swinging “Oprah’s the New-30″ year old is so inspired by the soft sunlight streaming through the pine trees in my garden that I have decided to to do blog housekeeping.
And guess what? I left my cf storage card for the Canon EOS 400D camera in Manila so now photos of all this beauty will just have to wait. You’ll just have to content yourselves with a pretty recent photo I took of on a similarly beautiful day.
Why would Baguio Insider need redesign?
The categories are too numerous, and sometimes redundant, I will have to sort through them all efore the site gets any larger.
Also, I have been wanting to feature videos on my blog sidebar, and some images, too but, those three column designs with the text in the middle that Baguio Insider has been using for some time, although they focus on content and readability, do not allow flexibility for the inclusion of large boxes.
I uploaded this wonderful free theme (dull right now, but highly editable) that I feel like playing with, in the next few days, so those of you who visit everyday, will see some minor changes, as I figure out how to work with tabbed boxes and all other design elements that they did not even dream up of when I was a student.
The design bug has bitten me again today. And by the way, while this blog was silent for a while, the other websites have been redesigned.
Please visit:
which has so many new features that I, in colegiala-speak, “am tamad” to list here. You can check the latest in the Articles & Reviews page.
Completely new look
Merged the How to Build a Profitable Web Site Tutorial with the blog. I LOVE the look of my new tech blog.
I UNDERSTAND WHY ARTISTS WOULD FLOCK TO BAGUIO NATURALLY
Because one is most creative when one is closest to nature, to all of God’s creations. And although He gave us the intelligence and the raw materials to invent concrete, I’m sure that if He wanted us to cover up the whole earth with it, like we are doing to the City of Pines these days, then He would have designed it so that Joseph Lansang’s favorite creepy crawly creatures will also thrive on cement!
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that since the rape of our environment started, the local artists are having, more and more often, nudes as subjects, as if desperately clinging to untouched natural beauty? (And not for much longer, if Vicky Belo had her way)
My gardenias are abloom for all the rains, and my house is filled with natural air fresheners. For us Pinoys, the gardenia is also know as ROSAL, those delicately-scented white flowers that can be easily grown and reproduced by just cuttings!
I wrote a feature on Tam-awan Village at GoBaguio! yesterday and wish I could do something more in depth about the Baguio art scene. Soon… soon…
And although I am no painter or sculptor, or even a wordsmith, I can and do paint passable word pictures of my beloved Baguio City on the web, pretty much a one man show of promoting, photographing (ok, Nico helps me out a lot with this), waxing poetic, search engine optimizing, and crowing all for the sake bringing in outside income to all those living here, and for doing my bit in “forcing beauty upon the city.”
Unlike alot of Baguio residents, the hospitable person that I am, I LOVE tourists! They come, they spend, they leave! And maybe soon, they’ll come back and start another cycle of spending!
BACK TO BLOG HOUSEKEEPING
Ok, so since still I’m babbling almost an hour since I started, the site is still a sad and lonely old lavender. I have to figure this thing out by myself, scouring the web for help on the topics of css stylesheets, editing php and all that.
Normally, one does the redesign on another account and then uploads the whole thing so that the site visitors will always see a smashing site, pero, “close naman tayo, di ba?”
Hahaha.
And just you wait for my next post that deals with the Saint Louis University Nursing Course Screening Policy
Gimme a day or two.
In the meantime, you may want to see Baguio through my eyes (with rose-tinted glasses or just a brilliant memory of good things past?) or learn, perhaps, how to instantly have a wordpress site like this one, or learn more about lasik eye surgery.
Ta-ta for now!

Good morning Lisa and everyone, at first I thought is this the right page? haha…inspiring morning nga Lisa, thanks again for your post.
Good morning Resty,
Lovely, lovely October day in Baguio, and when the kids are all locked up in their classrooms, I may enjoy a bit of quiet — until recess. Hahaha!
Lisa, let’s look forward to sem break. There’s usually a ’sweet spot,’ that time when the students go home to their respective provinces and before the visitors come up, where Baguio is just Baguio. Made much more so if all the universities end their semester at the same time and not staggered.
pahabol, prefer the convertible
Yup! There’s a sweet spot in January, too (in between tourists and students, like Jan 2 and 3, when all is quiet).
The convertible is in Manila.
Good afternoon Lisa and sir Resty…i thought i clicked on the wrong website…I may be a stranger to you and though i am not a resident of the city (oh, i’d love to but…too many things to consider), a day wouldn’t be complete without visiting your blog.
I do agree that January is a sweet spot…my husband and i were there last january 2-4 and we really appreciated sipping a cup of coffee at Burnham amidst all the problems facing the city right now.
We hope to visit this semestral break if time and work permits us to do so….good luck and more power….i enjoy reading your piece.
And Lalaine, believe me, in a few days, you’ll probably not recognize it again! I am working on three designs I cannot seem to choose from.
Thanks for dropping by. If it weren’t such a glorious day, you would have seen the old design with the SLU post. But it’s too pretty a day for all that. This design is so “un-green” isn’t it? FYI everybody, I am using the WP Premium theme (red).
Have a nice day, Lalaine!
Hi Lisa, I really love your blog and your informational site on Baguio. My family and I will be in Baguio for the Halloween/All Saints-Souls day weekend and wanted to find out where there is trick or treating for the kids. Help! Salamat in advance!
Hi Mia,
You’ll probably find trick or treat activities at the bigger hotels and resorts: The Manor at Camp John Hay, Baguio Country Club. Have a great time in Baguio!
My ’sweet spot’ seems to be no longer there. Even with the sem break, it doesn’t seem to make any considerable difference now with the motor and people traffic downtown. Look forward to your sweet spot in January, Lisa.
Hi Resty,
Watch for the November 1-2 weekend. Since most of those living here are not originally from the City of Pines, their loved ones are not buried here either!
And the tourists will not be up either because it is a “short” weekend, and they have to go to their provinces or have those cemetery family reunions.
Early November may just hold a sweet spot for you still.
Been a good and very warm October, Lisa. Buti na lang we had those rainy afternoons to make up for the lack of typhoon rains.
Hi Lisa, long time no see. I’ve been a visitor of your site/s for quite a while now. I must say, as a whole, you speak my sentiments EXACTLY except on 1 point of view… the Koreans. But, to each his own and I respect your opinions. Keep them coming and I hope to bump into you one of these days.
Is your place still open to the public? People have been asking me about it.
Hi Gigi,
Thanks for passing by. As for the Koreans, well, we all have very strong opinions, and have formed them based on the personal and business relationships we’ve made, I suppose. Right now, with the problems of mismanagement the city is facing, they’re actually the least of our problems — a distraction in fact from the real issues plaguing the city.
By reservation only, for the comfort of those who have planned a quiet, relaxing vacation, but you know me, I will do everything to make folks have a jolly, good time. Contact me directly, if the need arises. Will email you my mobile number.
Hi Lisa,
Semestral break is over…..and so sadly i wasn’t able to visit my beloved Baguio….work just came pouring in at the start of sem break. Well, there’s still enough time before the year ends, or maybe we might consider that sweet spot in January when Baguio is just Baguio.
Hope to meet you when i go up there. But i don’t know how…maybe you could send me your address or contact number through my email. thank you very much.
HI Lalaine,
I edited your comment to remove the email address so that the whole world will not spam you.
Don’t worry, I know it already because I get notified whenever anyone leaves a comment here, and the email you submit is included.
Hope to see you soon. Thanks
Thanks, Lisa! It was so nice of you.
Was searching through google on the Panagbenga 2009 schedule til i got to this page.. Can’t help but say something it.
I’ve always wanted to live in Baguio and wake up every morning adoring it’s beauty. I’m no painter, or sculpture either, i don’t even have eyes for visual arts, but there’s something about this place that draws me..
Fashion and poetry is all over the place..The pines and the mountains, the climate, and the kind taxi drivers, I keep on coming back over and over again that like don’t ever wanna leave.
Someday, I’ll be spending my mornings in Baguio too.. Or 2 mornings every other month at least.?
