Decongesting Baguio Part 2: No Overnight Parking Proposal

Written by lisa on Jan 7th, 2008 | Filed under: baguio, business & economy, government & politics

I have it on good authority that each and every post emanating from Baguio Insider is printed out and a personal copy handed to the Mayor.

To this I say Yehey - I have his eye!

So here, Mr. Mayor and members of the Baguio City Council, is a funky suggestion for an ordinance that will make Baguio City some money, will not cost much, and may make some folks angry but in the long run make folks admire you for your courage and determination. It does not discriminate against the ‘poor,’ is perfectly legal, and a very creative way to clean up Baguio to a large extent.

Congratulations, Mayor Bautista!

Today’s headlines are shouting: “Garbage Problems Did Not Dampen Arrival of Visitors - Official” This was at the close of November 30, a legal holiday in the Philippines, Revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio Day, the start of a long weekend.

Of course they would not affect ARRIVAL — no one but WE knew how bad things have been the past two months. But thanks to the heavy influx of visitors, now THEY know how dirty Baguio is these days. And thanks to blogging, I would not be surprised if more photos of UGLY BAGUIO will be posted in the next few days.

Question is: Will they RETURN? And how many people will they COMPLAIN to, whose decisions to come up will be affected? (more…)

Quotes For Posterity 2: On the ‘Cars for the Baguio City Council’ Issue

Written by lisa on Nov 19th, 2007 | Filed under: featured articles, government & politics, opinion/editorial, quotes for posterity

Chi alerted us to the most recent issue of the city council voting to use public funds to issue themselves cars. By the way, we noticed she has switched from Chi from the Coooooool Clouds to Chi from the ‘Hot’ Clouds when commenting, and understandably so. Here’s the news link and there are animated discussions in two wonderful and influential blogs: Bill Bilig’s From the Boondocks and Jack Carino’s where you can head on over and vent, if you wish.

I am only going to join in as far as commenting in these gentlemen’s blogs, and chronicling here how these greedy people voted. Of course, with all the furor this recent move has made, “Mr. Clean” Peter Rey Bautista, who was not party to the shenanigans present during the deliberations is expected to veto it if just for his own (political) good, upon his return from China. Quotes for Posterity (aka Baguio Local Elections 2010), Part 1

Written by lisa on Nov 13th, 2007 | Filed under: baguio, business & economy, featured articles, government & politics, only in baguio, opinion/editorial, quotes for posterity
Quote #1″Let’s face it. Much money has been invested (for the project) and removing it would be impractical.” FariƱas, appealing to the various sectors to just consider the benefits the flyover would give to the city like traffic relief in the area.

Let’s face it, there was no traffic in that area until they started building the stupid flyover! Much money was wasted on an unnecessary, ugly, impractical structure that arose from the figment of someone’s imagination on how to make massive money from the project.

If there was truly traffic congestion in the area, Domogan and Vergara could have first tried an effing stoplight before wasting a hundred million on a few meters of a concrete monstrosity.

Baguio City Council: Worse Than The 1990 Earthquake

Written by lisa on Oct 8th, 2007 | Filed under: baguio, business & economy, government & politics, only in baguio

I know a lot of them are graduates of Baguio schools, and they probably think they’re doing Baguio a favor, but let me tell you how the City Council is destroying Baguio via their badly thought of plans.

The city bounced back pretty fast after the 1990 earthquake, but the damage caused by the local government in the 17 years since is like water torture, drop after drop (or should I say, building after ugly building, policy after useless policy) and yet in the end, devastating to the environment that fuels our economy. And it continues to this day.
