Mom, Handmaids of the Lord, Gawad Kalinga & Tony Meloto’s Oh-So-Wonderful Speech
My mom, Mitos, is a member of the Handmaids of the Lord (HOLD). She is sooo happy with this group. Happier than when she was an officer for many years of the Hotel & Restaurant Association of the Philippines (HRAP). Even if all her children are out of the house by now, even if she has no grandchildren, my mom is so not lonely. This group keeps her ultra busy travelling around the country and abroad, and I really appreciate that she’s in such good company.
Let me tell you about the Handmaids: I always refer to them as the “viuda (widowed), separada (separated), single mom version of Couples for Christ (CFC),” or sometimes “God’s MLM Network,” or “the women who cannot worship the Lord without eating.” Some of them are not separated (their husbands are just not in the CFC Community yet), some are not single moms but merely happily single and feel too mature for the activities of Singles for Christ.
