Haunted Baguio: Spirit Quest at Nevada Square Revisited, Part 2

Here is the second part of the story, a continuation of Haunted Baguio: The Spirit Quest at Nevada Square Revisited, a recounting of the events that occurred on 26-27 October 2002, involving Tony Perez and the Spirit Questors in an activity intended to communicate with the 1990 Baguio earthquake victims who perished at Hotel Nevada.

The Spirit Quest.

I remember that the first thing Tony Perez did was to have a briefing at the old Red Lantern Chinese restaurant location. This briefing was participated in by all the Spirit Questors from Manila as well as those from Baguio, plus folks who were working at Nevada Square, belonging to different business organizations. This group included a very informative security guard, who has of course, witness more goings on that anybody else, and an owner of an office on the top floor of Nevada Square.

Then the Spirit Questors began to move around in teams trying to identify spots that has the strongest paranormal vibrations. I did not join them and really had nothing to do at that point except stand on the balcony with KC, as Nico was in charge of photography that morning.

My sister Rosanne had lent us what probably was a first generation digital camera where the images taken were stored in — ta da! — floppy disks.

Later, a copy of these all these photos, in floppy disks, were all delivered to Tony Perez for his use in his article at the Philippine star detailing the Spirit Questors at Nevada Square.

As the Questors passed us on the upper levels, KC and I both noticed that the hairs on our arms would rise and fall at the same time, which was simply uncanny. It’s not like we heard, saw or felt anything in particular. The hairs just kept standing and falling back down by themselves! ‘Twas totally queer, and that was actually what scared us a bit.

We would hear the Questors describing particular entities, with different persons seeing or feeling the same presence, describing the same:

“I see a man…”

“…in a light blue worker’s uniform…”

“…with a name tag on his chest…”

“I see the name tag, can you see his name…”

They determined that the hot spots were the Brewyard kitchen area, the second floor corridor where there were a few retail shops at that time, and the Brewyard dining room. These were all within the location of the old Hotel Nevada. You see, the hotel was set to the back of the property so those areas corresponded to  where the souls of the victims would have been.

  1. You really should write a print book soon, dearie…

    Hi Chi,

I would be “finger-tied!” But how sweet of you to think so.

Never aspired to be a writer. you know. My ex-boyfriend, Cochise, who was abducted and murdered in 1990, was one of the more promising writers of his time. I was just thinking, if he were alive, how he would have enjoyed exploring all the different media available today.

Of course, even as a student (he and Butch Dalisay were in the creative writing English program in UP Diliman at the same time) some of his short stories already got published in literary magazines and I remember how excited he was while waiting to see his work in print.

Butch, of course, because he’s WAYYYYY older, and WAYYYYY more talented, already had several awards under his belt by the time he returned to UP to complete his degree.

I, on the other hand, preferred to enroll in English Language subjects, phonology and all that — more detective work than creating. Call it a lack of imagination.

Boy, what a long reply to such a short, albeit complimentary comment! Am in a story-telling mod, you see…

    :)

    Lisa:

Amazing blog! I read that a guy named Cochise was your ex-boyfriend.Was he the one killed in Pampanga? I read the case when I was in law school but I forgot the details. All I remember is that he was a law student.

  4. lisa says:

    Hi Sheryl,

Yes, Cochise was taken to Pampanga and killed there. He and I were classmates, group mates and best buddies in UP Law, too. He was reviewing for the bar when he was abducted. I was to graduate a year later, but never got around to completing my last 17 units. Long story… :)

Thanks for liking the site, hope to see you around. Am about to do a whole series on Sagada, in case folks would find the information useful.

  5. Lalaine Tenorio says:

Hi Lisa, i’ll be waiting for your sagada series. I havn’t been to the place though my husband and I have been making plans to visit for quite some time now but didn’t push through. I’d like to know when is the best time to go there and some suggestions on where to stay.
Oh yes, Cochise…i have read so many articles about him back in college days when i was still a student activist..now i began to think why i was drawn to this site….one is my love for Baguio…and maybe…just maybe..we share some common interests.

  6. yeoz says:

is there anyone you know who could help me with something very personal re removing one love?

  7. lisa says:

    Yeoz,

From your heart or from this earth? Actually regardless of your answer, I don’t know anyone who can help you remove one love.

  8. Lalaine Tenorio says:

    Yeoz,
From your heart, only you can solve your problem. Learn to accept and continue living your life. Move on.

…from this earth?…leave it to the Almighty…have faith in Him…

    Good luck and Godbless…
