Padyak para Sa Binhi ng Kordi Rides Again!

In November 2008. a group of young and adventurous Cordillera natives challenged themselves to ride 24 hours non-stop across rough mountain roads. To make sure they would accomplish what they set out to do they decided to do it for the Cordillera environment, seeking pledges for seedlings or cash for every kilometer they were able to cover on their ride. Thus Padyak para sa Binhi ng Kordi was born.

On that first ride they covered 206 kilometers riding into the night, through the cold, heat, mud and rocks of the Cordillera mountains — and all in just 24 hours. They were able to raise enough money to reforest five (5) hectares in Taba-ao, Kapangan Benguet while at the same time raising the awareness of the local community about the plight of the Cordillera forests.

The reprise of the bike adventure will be on January 30 and 31, 2010. Their original November 2009 schedule was reset because of the damage in the area caused by typhoon Pepeng.

This year some new faces will be added to their roster of 24 hour Padyak para sa Binhi ng Kordi riders — Levi Nayahangan, a native of Ifugao province, JP Alipio from La Trinidad in Benguet Province and Ken Daweg, who traces his routes to Sagada in the Mountain Province.

All the riders share a passion for their homes and the need to save and restore the wild places they knew from childhood. The second run of Padyak para sa Binhi ng Kordi focuses on building new forests especially in the areas that were badly damaged during typhoon Pepeng and the funds from the this year’s pledges will go to rebuilding these forests in the now denuded areas of the mountains.

Visit their site at http://padyakparasabinhi.multiply.com/ to make your pledges. It is a lovely and very worthy cause. It not only helps the Cordillera region, you will be helping the entire planet, too, wouldn’t you agree?

  1. Nice article and a good cause for the environment. I just wonder has this been featured on TV or newspaper and magazines?

People need more of this to protect our mother nature.

    Hi Francis,

I believe they get coverage from the TV stations, but only as the event is happening. This is why folks like me advertise them as soon as we get word of firm plans so folks can maybe get involved by making pledges.

Also coverage is good because others might be inspired to undertake similar initiatives.

    I love these boys! :)

Unfortunately, I can’t view this clip. There is a block(WMG whatever that means). But I understand their noble purpose. Bless their hearts! This needs to be shown to all & sundry so others can emulate the deed. What a way to save nature!!!
